Practice indigenous traditions for the art of weaving and creating with natural fibers. As we weave, our indigenous guides will share wisdom about the materials, uses, and qualities of our creations.

The art of weaving connects us with the plants who gift us their fibers, a long lineage of those who practiced before us, and each other as we weaving in community.

During this weekend campout, you’ll learn about and eat ancestral foods, connect with the ingredients and each other, and become fueled the fire you learn how to cook over.

As you reconnect with food from your ancestral lands and diets your lineage thrived on, your body, nervous system, and spirit become more grounded, more connected, and nourished in new ways.

Prior to colonialism, we were hunter/gatherers and many communities on our indigenous lands still are. The art of hunting, tracking, and processing animals is sacred and an important survival skill.

During this weekend campout, we’ll share how to honor the animals we’re working with, express gratitude for the nourishment we’ll recieve, and process and prepare a meal over open fire.

Join Sankofa Roots for a weekend camp-out at the Yuba River, where we’ll teach life-saving swimming techniques and sun-bathe all weekend. Our certified lifeguards will teach skills such as: back-floating, treading water, swimming against a current, and more.

Come skill up with us for this wilderness survival experience.

Learn basic camping skills such as: tent set-up, fire-making, outdoor cooking, and self and Earth hygiene practices.

Build advanced outdoor skills, such as: wild food/medicine foraging, making cordage/rope, building a natural shelter, filtering water, navigation skills, wilderness first aid, and nervous system regulation and emotional preparedness for emergencies.

Root in the rhythms of the land, working with natural materials to build a communal cob oven, practice hand-building pottery, and prepare foods traditionally.

Special guest trainer, Joshua Kwaku Asiedu, will guide us through techniques that honor the land and our people, with an emphasis on slowing down, being in relationship with place, and working with what the Earth offers.
